I am very concerned about environmental issues, but... just wow. I don't understand how the same people can be so outraged at the death of trees and animals but so ok with murdering babies. I just can't wrap my mind around it. It makes me so sad.

Yikes. Well, that was definitely the laugh I needed today. But it is really sad. There is so much more to life. I can't belive that people can worship God's creation like that and not see the bigger picture. They must feel so empty...
Even during my hardcore hippie days I would probably giggle over these people. Have they no perspective? Or understanding of something other than themselves? Or do they actually think they are really wood nymphs and dryads whose souls are tied to their tree?
It's funny; VERY funny, but I agree with you all. SO sad. Wherein is their purpose, their life? They admire the amazing life of the rock; is that what they desire? They don't know it's an echo of their need for the Rock.
It's neo-paganism. I went to school with some people who could totally sympathise with this perspective.
At least they have identified that people in our consumerist culture are actually hurting and looking for something to fill the void. I think looking for spiritual meaning somewhere is a good start - let's pray they keep looking.
And generally the hippies that I know are very earth-mothery types. To assume that these particular tree-huggers are pro-abortion is just that - an assumption.
My last point wasn't an assumption about these people; it was a question. Do you think they would mind? I mean, the tree has little choice, as does the human baby. My point is that there is considerable inconsistency wanting to preserve the 'life' of trees, whales, amoebas, etc, while supporting (and even assisting, via legislation, public opining, etc) the murder of God's *ultimate* creation (and ultimate innocence, at that). Whether these particular people do or not is not to be known. But I don't think I've met anyone passionately 'environmentalist' who is equally (or even remotely) 'pro-life'. An observation, only.
Nathan, yeah, I was wondering about that... When I was in high school in the NW some tree-hugger types blocked a logging road with their persons, for days. They brought in their furniture - couches, chairs, etc. - which were all made of ...wood.
And I wonder if the gal admiring the rock has any slaughtered minerals on her person... Metal zippers, shoelace eyelets. Hm.
