Must-Reads!

I ran across a series of blogposts lately, and was completely enthralled.  If you've ever given birth, plan to give birth, or were given birth to, I encourage you to read these.  The author (Gombojav Tribe) has had six children, and is a childbirth educator and doula, so she knows what she's talking about.  Check it out:

What do you think?

Very cool links! I am thinking about going getting certified in the Bradley method this fall.... It's just a thought right now, but I would really like to go do it!

I think it's nice if you can do it, and I aim to have an intervention-free birth each time, but I have at least two friends who would be dead right now if it wasn't for medical intervention during the birth, so it needs to be seen in balance.

But then, I hear in the states that births are much more 'medicalised' than they are here, where midwives are the lead medical carers for at least 80% of births...

Let's not forget that 150 years ago, and in the third world today, death in childbirth is the leading cause of death for women.

Yes, I think the pendulum has probably shifted too far when people are opting for C-sections for cosmetic and timetable reasons, and think that all births need a trained obstetrician actively managing them (the majority of births will proceed just fine without intervention)- but I like the security of knowing there's a trained obstetrician just down the hallway should I suddenly bleed out, or the baby get too distressed.

You know my particular preference for birth, and I'm sure I don't need further convincing as I'm already obnoxious enough with my opinions (just ask my friends who are neither married nor expecting but are routinely educated on the trauma of a hospital/medicated birth), but I really appreciated these links. I like how she presented the information and defended her position from all aspects. I totally respect each woman's birth decision, I can't ever be in her position and know every single last detail that must be weighed and considered, but I firmly believe women must be well-educated and researched before making any decision.

Thanks for sharing!
